Japan probably Taisho era (1912-1926) $1,500.00 An obi that has very unusual patterning: it has metallic-thread couching and painting that is similar in execution to what one would find in late 19th or early 20th century Japanese textiles, but the ground seems to be of an old rayon or equivalent, so I am supposing early 20th century (rayon was sometimes used as a basis of expensive textiles at that time). The designs are painted in various shades of blue, then the painted areas are highlighted with embroidery. The couched embroidery is accomplished with silver metallic threads. Excellent condition. 13" x 140". 1373Contact Us About This Item: |
